The House of Angostura Named World Class Distillery 2017, Awarded Six Gold Medals by World Spirits Awards

In a stellar performance, The House of Angostura has been awarded the coveted title of World Class Distillery 2017 at this year’s World Spirits Awards (WSA), as well as Gold Medals for five of its rums and for its newest distillation: Amaro di ANGOSTURA®.

Only 25 distilleries around the world are named World Class by the WSA. To qualify as “World Class” the distillery must be awarded 92-100 points.

Of the House of Angostura’s International Rum Range, Gold Medals were awarded to: Angostura® Reserva, Angostura 1824®, Angostura 1919®, Angostura® 7 Year Old Rum, and Angostura® 5 Year Old Rum. The newly launched Angostura® 1787 received a Silver Medal.

Amaro di ANGOSTURA® which has taken the Amaro market by storm also received a Gold Medal from the WSA for the second year in a row, with judges noting the drink’s “coherent herb and root mixture… sumptuous sugar sweetness [and] delicate pepper-chilli hotness,” which make it unique in the class.

Established 14 years ago, the World Spirits Awards prides itself in setting the ultimate benchmark in the world of spirits using a transparent, accurate 100-point WOB evaluation system. The competition is themed “Simply the best in spirits,” and relies on the unsurpassed quality of its jury, which is meticulously trained and highly qualified.

Angostura® Awarded 5 medals at The Spirits Business Rum Masters Competition 2017

Port of Spain, Trinidad. March 2017: The House of Angostura is proud to announce its’ success at one of the most respected and high-profile trade competitions in the industry, The Spirits Business – Rum Masters Competition 2017.

Its’ newest addition to the family of premium rums Angostura® 1787, was awarded a Gold medal in the Dark Rum- Ultra Premium category. Angostura’s twelve year-old rum (Angostura 1824®) and its Angostura 1919®, both earned Gold medals in the Dark Rum- Aged 7-12 year and Gold rum- Super Premium categories respectively. Angostura® 7 year-old premium rum and its 3 year old white rum, Reserva won silver medals.

In February 2017, the Spirits Business – Rum Masters competition brought together, leading and independent rum experts, who gathered at Rum and Sugar in London’s West India Quay, to recognize and honour the world’s finest brands, by engaging in a blind tasting competition. This year, the competition was judged by a panel chaired by Kristiane Sherry and joined by Timothy Falzon, head bartender at Mahiki; Chris Mathurin, co-founder of rum blog Rumming.co.uk; and Keegan Menezesm Drinkapparition blogger.

Genevieve Jodhan named Angostura’s Chief Executive Officer

Angostura Holdings Limited announced today that Genevieve Jodhan has been appointed Chief Executive Officer. Mrs. Jodhan has been acting in the position since September 2016. Previously, Mrs. Jodhan led the company’s international sales and marketing division as its Executive Manager.

In her new role, Mrs. Jodhan will lead Angostura’s executive management team, and support the Board of Directors on the Company’s strategic business and growth strategies as well as other key decisions.

“Genevieve has the experience and track record of delivering results and has proven leadership. She spearheaded our international sales growth increasing market share and sales of our signature rums and bitters in Europe, Asia and Australia and has directed the development of the brands in many emerging markets including Russia, Czech Republic, and Armenia.” said Dr. Rolph Balgobin, Chairman of the Board of Directors.

Dr. Balgobin added that the Board is confident that the new CEO would lead and execute Angostura’s vision to expand globally.

“I am both humbled and honoured to be appointed Chief Executive Officer. I have been with the Company for close to a decade and my commitment has always been to Angostura’s people, products and values. I am keen to build on the long outstanding achievement of our manufacturing business, through the execution of forward looking business strategies that add to the customer experience, and build on our shareholders’ value.”

Mrs. Jodhan assumed her new role on Tuesday 14th February. She has 3 children and is the first woman to head one of Trinidad and Tobago’s largest manufacturing companies, outside of the energy sector
